Kiernan - Autopilot, Review
Kiernan - Autopilot
Review By Chilly Oppa
Sometimes, the right song finds you at the right time, and that’s exactly what happened with Autopilot. Kiernan's music feels like a warm healing hug to me, and on a day when I felt creatively defeated and overwhelmed by life’s pressures, that's just what I needed. The track opens with enchanting country coated strings, a gentle drum line and Laura Kiernan's signature timeless vocals. In an Instagram post promoting the new single, Kiernan states, "Autopilot is many things - a song about fear swelling up, about embarrassment and guilt, about driving away too fast". That translated extremely well on the track and highlighted the comforting essence of the song. One of the many stand out lyrics to me was, "It got so hard to breathe that night, I had to turn on all the lights". This was a great representation of anxiety, and also perfectly transitioned into the mesmerizing chorus that has been stuck in my head the past few days.
The intimate nature of the lyrics and the heartfelt, resonant instrumentation, brought such a personal feel to this song, and I absolutely love that. One thing I can say for sure is that Kiernan has a genuine cathartic energy about them, and this song shined a light on that quirk of theirs. The strong delivery and message of this song, show how thoughtful and passionate the band is when creating, and as a listener this is what drew me to their music in the first place. Autopilot is more than just a good song, it’s a reminder of how music can gently guide us through our most vulnerable moments. Kiernan continues to create a safe space for all of us through their music, offering comfort, connection, and a sense of belonging with every song.
